Metaverse is a virtual world concept that will be utilized as a substitute for various activities. Metaverse is an Augmented Reality (AR) technology that allows a person to do activities in it. In short, the metaverse is a virtualized real world. This means that the metaverse can become a second world for someone. All forms of general to specific activities can be done through the metaverse.
One of the fields that will be greatly facilitated by the metaverse is the field of education. This field also has many branches of science which can utilize the metaverse as a teaching medium. Practical simulation of both inanimate objects such as machines to living objects such as animals can be done through the metaverse.
The Biology Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Malang is one of the departments of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education whose practicum is directly related to nature. Practical simulations with nature generally incur a lot of costs that are not cheap. Then, every simulation carried out does not guarantee 100% successful completion. So, when there is a failure, it must be repeated from the beginning.
Realizing this, Wednesday (11/01) UMM Informatics Study Program conducted metaverse socialization to provide solutions for the implementation of practicum simulations so that they can be carried out effectively and efficiently. The socialization of metaverse was very well received because it turned out that the lecturers to the head of the Biology Education study program realized that technology must be followed to obtain science that is up to date, easy to understand, and provides convenience for teaching and learning activities.
“So learning that is not affordable such as going up to the mountain, to the forest area, or the river area can apply the use of metaverse” said the Head of the Biology Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Malang, Eko Susetyarini.
Eko Susetyarini’s statement proves that the use of metaverse for the Biology Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Malang is very possible. The use of metaverse for Biology Education can be applied in many aspects. Student activities related to nature that are difficult to reach will be made easy by using the metaverse. Simulation of flora and fauna research on the riverbed can also be made virtually using metaverse. Even microorganism research is also very possible to be created in the metaverse.
